Caps Utd punish wasteful Bosso

HARARE giants CAPS United registered their second straight win of the season after beating a wasteful Highlanders 3-1 in an exciting Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

United overcame champions Gunners 2-1 in their first win of the season at the same venue in midweek and followed that up with a thumping victory over the inconsistent Bulawayo giants.

Goals from former Eagles captain Courage Denias 24th min, Nyasha Mushekwi 65th min and Leonard Tsipa 76th min condemned Bosso to yet another morale shattering defeat.

This was Bosso’s second consecutive defeat after they were shocked 1-0 by Shabanie in another league match last week.

Yesterday’s loss made it three defeats and two wins for Highlanders in the league race.

However, Highlanders dominated the first half and displayed some methodical build ups only to be let down by poor finishing.

They outclassed CAPS United in all departments in the first half but Abraham Mubaiwa – trusted to lead their attack in partnership with Joel Luphala – fluffed a glut of chances and was later substituted with Simbarashe Gate coming on in the second half.

Although Highlanders dominating the first half it was CAPS United who scored first with Courage Denias – on for the injured Tafadzwa Rusike – inking his name on the score sheet.

Denias dispossessed midfielder Eric Mudzingwa to fire the ball into the right corner of the post to give United the lead.

The goal came against the run of play with Highlanders the exchanges and Bosso immediately upped their game in search of an equalizer but Joel Luphala’s speculative long-range shot was stopped by CAPS goal minder Edmore Sibanda.

The visitors however, pulled one back in 56th minute through Stephen Alimenda whose shot took a wicked deflection off CAPS defender Douglas Walaza.

But the Highlanders’ hopes were dashed after 65 minutes when Mushekwi fired United into the lead again- drilling a low shot past a diving Aerial Sibanda in goal for Highlanders.

And before Bosso could regroup, Tsipa spotted Sibanda off his line and released a long range drive that went into the far left corner of the upright post to seal the game for United.

Elsewhere Guthrie Zhokinyu and Benjamin Marere scored as Dynamos dismissed Hwange 2-0 in another premier league match played at the Colliery Stadium.
